About the Rio School District
Since its beginnings as a one-room schoolhouse in 1885, the Rio School District has been the center of the community for all the families it has served. Today, the thriving District continues its tradition of caring for each student. Through teaching excellence, close working relationships and community partnerships, Rio School District inspires students and employees to strive to be lifelong learners who are engaged in the community.
Rio School District serves the unincorporated community of El Rio, the RiverPark development and portions of the City of Oxnard. The District strives to provide world-class education to its more than 4,300 students through six elementary schools, two middle schools and the Community Day School.
Families appreciate Rio’s small school communities that average 449-486 students in the elementary schools and 694 students at the middle schools. Classrooms average 19.7 students per class in kindergarten through third grade, and 26-30 students in fourth through eighth grade. In kindergarten through third grade, the student-teacher ratio is 19.75:1, and 30.5:1 in fourth and fifth grade. The District plans to add a new school in the RiverPark development, making a total of three schools in the new neighborhood.
