Rio del Norte Elementary School

About Rio del Norte Elementary School
21 regular education classrooms
2 kindergarten classrooms

1 preschool class
24 preschool students served

Since opening in fall of 2001, Rio del Norte continues to develop as a community service-oriented school. The involvement of organizations, local businesses, higher education schools and volunteers creates a partnership that balances the academic curriculum with the development of our students. We strive for students to be engaged and successful in the process of learning by helping them discover interests and activities that enhance the lifelong learning process. The focus on providing standards-based teaching and fundamental learning tools helps students strive for their very best. We invite new challenges and ask for stakeholders to join us in meeting these new adventures with success. On campus, we are fortunate to have a special day class, speech teacher, counseling services, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme and the YMCA.

Principal's Message
It is truly a pleasure to welcome you to Rio Del Norte Elementary School, home of the Eagles. As I join this incredible school community as an experienced principal, I have found the parents, students, staff and District to be one of the most dedicated groups I’ve encountered.

Rio Del Norte is characterized as a safe and respectful school community school, which has a high regard for enhancing the talents and knowledge of all of its students. By providing a safe, trusting, and caring environment, and with active participation of students, staff, parents and community, together we will see great results in terms of not only student achievement, but also student character.

I am looking forward to the 2009-2010 school year with optimism, ready to see our students soar to new heights both educationally and socially.

I, and the Rio del Norte staff, welcome you to become an active part of our school community. Become involved and create great memories for your children through the many opportunities that will be provided for you to interact with your children throughout the year. Our terrific PTA sponsors many school projects to enhance our students’ school experience, and they welcome you to become a part of this supportive organization, as well.

Lastly, I encourage you to put your child’s education as a top priority this year. You can help by making sure your child attends school regularly and arrives at school on time every morning. By doing so, your child will get the maximum benefit from class and achieve at the highest levels possible.

At Rio del Norte, we have outstanding students and staff members, and parents. I am proud to be a part of this fine school in such a supportive community. Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!

Sincerely,
Gayle Hughes, Principal
